Full Review
The Gitzo GT3543LS is built to last a lifetime. The carbon fibre construction is remarkably rigid yet reasonably lightweight at 2.1kg—crucial when you're hiking to remote locations.
Stability is exceptional, even with my 500mm lens in windy conditions. The Systematic design allows fitting different heads, and I use it with a Wimberley gimbal for smooth tracking of birds in flight.
The leg locks are smooth and confident, and the legs spread to three angles for getting low to the ground or working on uneven terrain. Build quality is impeccable throughout.
The main downsides are the price and the fact that it doesn't include a centre column (intentional for maximum stability, but you need to buy one separately if you want height adjustment beyond the legs).
For serious wildlife photography with long lenses, this level of stability is worth the investment.
