Full Review

The Canon EOS R5 has transformed my wildlife photography. The combination of 45 megapixels and the incredible Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system means I rarely miss a shot, even with fast-moving subjects like kingfishers or hunting raptors.

The animal eye AF is genuinely remarkable—it locks onto birds in flight and tracks them with an accuracy that feels almost unfair. Combined with the 20fps electronic shutter, capturing that perfect moment of a bird landing or taking off has become far more achievable.

High ISO performance is excellent up to around ISO 12,800, which is essential for those early morning and late evening shoots when wildlife is most active. The in-body image stabilisation works beautifully with adapted lenses.

Battery life is the main weakness—I get around 400-500 shots per charge with regular use, so carrying two or three batteries is essential for a full day in the field.
